Who We Are
Established in 2015, Humanitarian Relief and Development Council (HRDC) is a national NGO delivering high-quality programming to beneficiaries across Somalia in four core areas, outlined below. HRDC programming is directed at refugees, returnees, vulnerable host communities, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Somalia.
The organization strives to facilitate people-centered development programs, supporting crisis-intervention as well as livelihoods-focused initiatives that create opportunities for marginalized and disadvantaged people. Working in Federal state of Puntland, HRDC has focused on ensuring high-quality, beneficiary focused solutions on the front lines of conflict, displacement, famine and economic collapse. With close to 14 staff working throughout the country,
HRDC has subject matter expertise in vital areas including protection, SGBV, legal aid, food security, development, engineering, community mobilization, education and crisis-intervention. A highly focused and engaged team, over 90% of the staff members of HRDC come from Somalia, providing the organization with a depth of understanding of communities and root causes of conflict that is beneficial in developing community-focused solutions.

Communities against Poverty
- Promote equitable access to food and sustainable livelihoods.

Where We Work
HDc’s staff are to be found across the country’s three regions. We have experience work in several contexts, both on the frontline of conflict, in spaces of refuge and in the national capital, Mogadishu.
As a national NGO, HRDC holds a unique position in the social fabric of Somalia. A core value of the organization is impartiality, and as such, HRDC works throughout the country with a diverse group of valued partners, each of whom support, facilitate and enable the efforts of HRDC in its core areas.
